Inquiry Regarding Mooring and Connection Details of OC3-Hywind Spar Floating Wind Turbine(new)

Dear Mr. Jason Jonkman,

I hope this message finds you well.

As I delve deeper into the subject of wind turbines, I have encountered a particular question that I would greatly appreciate your insight on. While I have gained an understanding of the mooring and connection method for semi-submersible floating wind turbines, which involves the use of fairleads and anchor winches as illustrated in Figure 1 (attached to this email), I find myself puzzled when it comes to the mooring system of the single-column floating wind turbines.

Despite consulting several textual descriptions mentioning that the moorings are connected to the platform through fairlead holes, I have yet to encounter detailed information or illustrations. Specifically, I am eager to learn about the connection method and the detailed configuration of the anchor cables with the floating platform in the OC3-Hywind Spar floating wind turbine.

Given your profound expertise and extensive experience in this field, I am reaching out to kindly request your guidance on the connection method and the specific structural details of the single-column floating wind turbine to its platform.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Dear @Chen.Chen.Fu,

The OC3-Hywind spar is documented in its specifications report: https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy10osti/47535.pdf. However, the details of the fairlead connections (such as winches) are not called out in this document or in the original data provided by Statoil; you’ll have to make your own assumptions for your own purposes.

Best regards,
