Mooring Design

I want to design the mooring system of a floating offshore wind turbine. When I checked the mooring properties of OC3-Hywind and OC4-DeepCwind, I found that the mooring line diameter of OC4-DeepCwind is thinner than that of OC3-Hywind, but the mass density of OC4-DeepCwind is larger than that of OC3-Hywind. Could you tell me how do you determine these properties?

When I design the mooring system, I need to choose the mooring line type according to code. I have read API_RK_2SK and DNVGL-OS-E301, but I didn’t find a table that can be used to choose the mooring line type. Could you tell me which code should I use?

Dear Yu Lei,

I don’t think I can answer your questions. The OC3-Hywind and OC4-DeepCwind models where not designed by NREL, but built in FAST based on designs by others. The specifications reports (nrel.gov/docs/fy14osti/60601.pdf for the OC4-DeepCwind) describe the sources of the data used to make the models.
