Wind turbine design guideline DG03: yaw and pitch rolling bearing life

Dear Sandy Butterfield,

For my master’s thesis, I am examining the possibility of using a tower structure with a yaw bearing at the tower base. As part of the evaluation, I therefore want to estimate the dimensions of a roller bearing. I have studied the NREL report “Wind turbine design guideline DG03: yaw and pitch rolling bearing life”. The papers “DG01 Loads analysis” and “DG02 Strength analysis” would be of great help to me as I need to determine the percentage of the different operating conditions and the radial load, axial load and moment load in each of the operating conditions.

Dear Jacob,

I’m not familiar with DG02, but I do know that DG01 was never finished, as discussed briefly in the following forum topic: Pitch Bearing Life - #2 by Marshall.Buhl.

Sorry,
