Power Curve

Dear Jason

my name is masataka

I’d like to know the detatil settings of nrel.gov/docs/fy09osti/38060.pdf in FAST V8.

now I’m calculating the power Curve but it’s just rise leave or constant value.

So I want to know the settings of normal power curve that is rise from cut in and rated constant value.

my settings is below. could you correct my settings?

Dear Masataka,

I’m sorry, but I do not understand your question. What do you mean when you say?:

Best regards,

I mean I’d like to obtain below ideal.jpg Power curve.

but now I obtain below file1.jpg

I’d like to know ideal.jpg settings.file1.jpg

Dear Jason

thank you for your reply.

I mean I want to obtain power curve like ideal.jpg for constant Pitch angle and constant rotspeed.

please let me know the settings of ideal.jpg.

thanks advance

best regards.

masataka motoyama

I meant sample1 or sample2 for last reply
sample1.jpgsample1.jpg
sample2.jpg

Dear Masataka,

As described in the NREL 5-MW specifications report, we generated the results of Figure 9-1 (what you call ideal.jpg) by running a series of FAST simulations at a number of given, steady, and uniform wind speeds (WindType = 1). Separate simulations were run at each wind speed and each simulation was run long enough to ensure that all transient behavior had died out. We recorded the steady-state output values from each simulation and plotted them as a line in Figure 9-1 (thus, only the steady-state response is shown).

But Figure 9-1 do not have constant pitch angle and constant rotor speed.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Dear jason

thank you for your reply

I understood your calculation

you mean you set the constant velocity and long time enough to ensure that all transient behavior had died out.

so if I’d like to set constant rotspeed and constant pitch angle , reasonably I could obtain file1.jpg?

file1.jpg is made by wind type=2 and 0.1m/s per 1sec uniform wind.

if i set rotspeed and pitch angle constants , can i obtain similar data? if obtain, how long do you know the wind speed per sec?
or just a wind data for 0ne wind speed?

best regards

masataka motoyama

Dear Masataka,

I’m not sure I understand your question, but I think you are asking how long should one hold the wind speed fixed before stepping to the next wind speed. You’d have to check that the transients have died out (which will depend on the wind turbine model). But I would start by assuming assuming 100 s per wind-speed step.

Best regards,

Dear jason

thank you very much

best regards
