I have a few questions regarding feature release dates:
a. Do you have a timeline on when ElastoDyn will be made available as a standalone module?
b. Do you have a timeline on when ServoDyn will be made available as a standalone module?
c. What is the outlook on the development of structurally flexible floating platforms (as part of the ElastoDyn module I presume)?
d. I believe the current VTK output file feature is for outputting structural mesh data only. Have you a plan to output the wind velocity fields?
Here are my answers to your questions:
a. The FAST budget has been dramatically reduced recently and while we have many items on our wish list of things to do, we are not currently funded to do most of them. I’ve made the lists of future work available as possible ideas for FAST developers outside of NREL, as we work to make FAST more of an open-source developer community rather than an NREL-driven development. There are no plans currently to develop a standalone driver for the ElastoDyn module.
b. There are no plans currently to develop a standalone driver for the ServoDyn module.
c. This is one of the top needs we’ve identified for the analysis of floating offshore systems, but we are not currently funded to work on this.
d. It would be great to include visualization of the wind field within the current visualization capability, but we are not currently funded to work on this.
