Creating New Wind Profile

Dear all,

Can you please tell me if there is the possibility to create a wind profile for the InflowWind Input File for OpenFAST by oneself?

I build a simple Simulink model of a wind turbine based on the NREL 5 MW Baseline Wind Turbine parameters and would like to do some comparisons between this model and simulation results with OpenFAST.

For that matter, I don’t require the wind profile to be very complex. I want to test some steps, ramps and harmonic signals.
It should be uniform with a constant speed pointing frontally on the rotor plane (like the InflowWind Input File with steady wind that is already available) and after some set point in time increase either like a step function to another constant wind speed or with constant incline (ramp) and after some more time constant speed again. And at last, I would like to include some harmonic signal like a sine wave as a wind profile.

Your help is much appreciated.

Best regards,

Hendrik

Dear @Hendrik.Groeger,

Yes, you can prescribe your own deterministic wind time series (without full-field turbulence) via the WindType = 2 (uniform wind file format) option of InflowWind, which is documented here: https://openfast.readthedocs.io/en/main/_downloads/a231262e7763b4d61759ebe4e0fc30b2/InflowWind_Manual.pdfand. And you can find an example of a uniform wind data file here: 4.12.4. Appendix — OpenFAST v4.0.2 documentation.
