Adapt a FAST V7 input file to use it with OPENFAST

Hello everybody,

I have this report of SNL (osti.gov/servlets/purl/1481579 ) wich provides a detailed revision of the V27 turbine. The issue is that the files contained in the report are for use with FAST V7 and I’m using OPENFAST. Does anyone know what can I do? How can I adapt the files? Is there a metodology?

Dear Tomás,

The FAST / OpenFAST V27 models are still being updated for use in the IEA Wind Task 31 WakeBench collaborative verification and validation project that makes use of the data from the SWiFT experiments. You can find this V27 model compatible with OpenFAST here: github.com/NREL/wakebench_swift … er/wt_data.

In general, though, to upgrade a FAST v7 model to OpenFAST, it would be easiest to first upgrade the FAST v7 model to FAST v8.16 using the scripts provided in the MATLAB Toolbox, as documented in the FAST v8 ReadMe file: wind.nrel.gov/nwtc/docs/README_FAST8.pdf. The changes in the input file formats between FAST v8.16 and OpenFAST v1 and v2 are fairly minimal after that upgrade.
