Spd_Trq.dat and pitch.dat files

Dear all,

I’m trying to run the Barge model in Fast v7.02. I’ve created the wind data file using IECWind.

The software needs the spd_trq.dat file, but it is not included in the .zip file I downloaded. Where could I find that? It seems that it is needed a pitch.dat file too. I couldn’t find the description of both files in the user’s guide.

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards,

Dear Fernando,

spd_trq.dat and pitch.dat are files that are used for user-defined controllers in the released FAST 7.02.00 executable. However, if you are running the barge configuration of the NREL 5MW model, you will need a version of FAST with a different user-defined controller, one that replaces the built-in user-defined controllers with control from a Bladed DLL. Instead of using the FAST executable from the 7.02.00 archive, you should use this executable: wind.nrel.gov/public/jjonkman/FA … erface.exe.

When you use this executable, it will need the DISCON.dll file in the same directory you are running FAST from.

Dear Fernando,

Bonnie answered your question well. More information is contained in my Apr 06, 2011 post in this forum topic: FAST.

Best regards,

Dear Bonnie and Jason,

Thank you very much once again. You are answering always so quickly!

Kind regards,

Hi,

I’m currently developing my master’s thesis on offshore Wind and now I’m studying the structural behavior of the 5MW Monopile Offshore Wind Turbine and I am using FAST as one of the tools.

I was using FAST v7.02.00 directly extracted from NREL website with the inputs from NRELOffshrBsline5MW public directory but I faced some problems that you already answered here as not finding the file “spd_trq.dat”. I did what you told Fernando.DelJesus, and downloaded the executable of FAST that runs with Bladed DLL control.

When I run this executable, I don’t know where to define the DLL file on the FAST input file. For this reason, I get the following error: “The DLL DISCON.dll could not be loaded”. I wonder if you can help me with my situation.

After having this problem solved, I wonder how can I define the p-y model on the FAST simulations. Do I have to recompile FAST to be able to use this routine?

Thank you very much in advance.

Dear Gabriel,

If you are using the FAST v7 executable linked above, the name of the DLL is set within the executable. If you upgrade to FAST v8, the filename, including path, are set within the FAST input files. See the following forum topic for solutions to this problem: "DISCON.dll could not be loaded" - #2 by Bonnie.Jonkman.

The FAST v7 executable linked above does not consider foundation flexibility through a p-y model, so, a recompile of FAST v7 is required to get such functionality. This is discussed in the following forum topic: Turbine-soil interaction. Influence on the mode shapes., especially my post dated Feb 01, 2013, where I share an example UserTwrLd_DS.f90 file.

Best regards,

Jason,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Regards,

Gabriel Maciel.
