Greetings from the OpenFAST development team!

We are happy to announce the release of version 3.5.1! This version of OpenFAST includes many bugfixes and a few improved features. Many of you will undoubtedly be happy to know that there are no input file changes with this update as this is primarily a bugfix release.

Feature improvements included in this release include the ability to visualize Morison meshes as surfaces and lines from HydroDyn, mooring line visualization from MoorDyn, new coordinate systems for nodal outputs in AeroDyn, and more SubDyn outputs (up to 99 members).

OpenFAST v3.5.3 has now been released!

This release includes a long awaited set of bug fixes for linearization with BeamDyn. Anyone needing to linearize with BeamDyn should not use any version of OpenFAST prior to this release.

Other notable improvements include corrections to turbine indexing when coupled to external codes such as AMR-Wind, new linearization regression tests, and new docker images.

The input files have not changed relative to the previous release.

Greetings from the OpenFAST development team!

You may have missed this over the holidays, but we are happy to announce that OpenFAST v4.0.0 was released on Christmas Eve! We were anticipating the release of this version of OpenFAST for a while, which includes many architectural changes, physics improvements, and bug fixes!

Improvements and new features include:

  • aerodynamics for skewed and sheared inflow, coned rotors, nacelle drag, and tail-fins;
  • hydrodynamic improvements, including wave loads at the displaced position, constrained New Wave theory, wave stretching, and the splitting of the wave field (new SeaState (SS) module) from HydroDyn;
  • large floating platform yaw dynamics;
  • nacelle-yaw friction;
  • linearization for MHK turbines;
  • reduced order structural and aero modules (Simplified-ElastoDyn (SED) and AeroDisk (ADsk));
  • AeroMap calculations;
  • wake-added turbulence in FAST.Farm;
  • fluid-structure coupling with AMR-Wind;
  • an unsteady airfoil aerodynamics driver supporting 3-DOF planar motion of a generalized cross section;
  • an updated Python library for OpenFAST file handling;
  • revised wind and wave data handling;
  • removal of AeroDyn v14;
  • many bug fixes; and
  • much, much more!

Note that the number of input file changes is large, so, we recommend reviewing the change logs (see links above).
