Kinematic stretching in HydroDyn module

Dear @Jason.Jonkman ,

Hope you are doing well.

I wanna ask you about the kinematic stretching in HydroDyn module. In fact, the kinematic stretching is due to the fact that the solution of the potential theory is not valid for z>0. There is a lot of types of kinematic stretching : vertical, wheeler, linear extrapolation.

My question is when i disable the kinematic stretching in HydroDyn, that means it does not compute the wave loads for z>0 ?

Best regards,

Riad

Dear @Riad.Elhamoud,

That is correct. Without stretching enabled, the wave kinematics in HydroDyn are only (and always) computed up to the still water level whether in a wave crest or trough.

Please note that wave stretching will be introduced in OpenFAST in v4.0 based on the following pull request: Additional features for the new SeaState module and HydroDyn by luwang00 · Pull Request #1008 · OpenFAST/openfast · GitHub.

Best regards,
