Data Version 1.29

I have updated the met tower data processing software to version 1.29.

What’s new in version 1.29?

  • Fixed a bug where I had inadvertently swapped the virtual potential temperature and virtual temperature in the Monin Obukhov calculations.
  • Fixed a bug where the defintion of the friction velocity ustar used the un-rotated form, rather than the form that is more appropriate for flows rotated to the local mean flow. The friction velocity is now defined simply as root(-mean(u’w’)).

Data have changed. Previous values of ustar and Monin-Obukhov length were impacted. As these data are used extensively to help calculate other values that are relevant to turbulent fluxes, please be very cautious with using old data.

You should start to see this in data with modification dates from about 17:40 Mountain time on August 5, 2013. Over the next week I expect all of the old data will be reprocessed using this version.

If you see any issues, please report them here. Thanks!

This update was immediately replaced with version 1.30.
