Dear @Jason.Jonkman
Thank you so much!

Dear Jonkman
If I want to study a 3X3 10MW onshore wind farm with PropagationDir
= 45 °, do I need to set the NacYaw
= 45 ° if I rotate the wind farm layout? Also, does this mean that the tower base loads TwrBsMxt
and TwrBsMyt
also need to undergo coordinate conversion? Also, is Mod_SmbWind
=3 suitable for wind farms with this inflow angle?
Best regards,
Dear @Zhiyan.Dong,
The FAST.Farm modeling guidance (4.18.6. Modeling Guidance — OpenFAST v4.0.0 documentation) does not recommend using PropagationDir
in InflowWind to change the wind direction when using turbulent inflow with Mod_AmbWind
= 2 or 3 because it would be impossible to align the grid points in the TurbSim and FAST.Farm domains. Rather, to change the wind direction, it is recommended to rotate the wind farm instead, i.e., the (WT_X
,WT_Y
) locations of the wind turbines. If you change the wind turbine positions without changing PropagationDir
, you shouldn’t need to change the yaw angle of each OpenFAST model to align the rotors with the wind direction.
Best regards,
