Static load test

Hi Jason:
I have a query about the static equilibrium test. I was of the opinion that it is carried out to ensure that a floating platform weight is balanced with the buoyancy forces and so, a mean heave of zero is what one is looking to obtain. I think I remember you had said that the DeepCwind was set up so that it produces mean heave of zero for a static load test.

I am trying to verify a FOWT model and thought that the aim of all static load test was to tune the platform such that a mean heave of zero is produced. Thus confirming a balance between the weight and the buoyancy forces.

Thank you.

Dear @Andre.White,

The HydroDyn modeling guidance (4.2.8.4. Modeling Considerations — OpenFAST v3.5.0 documentation) generally recommends to set up floating wind turbine models in OpenFAST such that the undisplaced buoyancy balances the system weight (including ballast) and vertical mooring pretension. This is generally how we set up all floating wind turbine models, including the NREL 5-MW baseline wind turbine atop the OC4-DeepCwind semisubmersible.

Best regards,

Thanks @Jason.Jonkman .
