NREL 5 MW - Blade Airfoils Data Files AR17

Dear Prof. Jason.Jonkman,

Have a nice day. would you please send me the data files of NREL 5MW where I’ve some troubles in mesh creating may be due to incompatibility between the data files which I’ve because I’ve found there’s no equality of airfoil plotting numbers in between, some files have 205 plotting points and some have 105, 398, … Best regards

Dear @Mohsen.Mansour,

I’m not sure I understand your question. What data files are you referring to? Does the discussion in the following forum topic help answer your question: NREL 5MW Rotor Geometry?

Best regards,

Thanks, Prof. Jason, the link you sent to me was useful but I’ve a question when I use coordinate file DU 99-w-405 LM and Adjusted DU 4050.

Dear @Mohsen.Mansour,

Are you referring to the following file: https://github.com/OpenFAST/r-test/blob/main/glue-codes/openfast/5MW_Baseline/Airfoils/DU40_A17_coords.txt? What question do you have?

Best regards,

Dear @Jason.Jonkman ,
Thanks for reply,Sir
I refer the data excel sheet
DOWEC-NREL 5MW blade airfoil data-v2
Regards

And what is your question about this excel file?

in coordinates sheet of this file, there’re coordinates for DU 99-W-405.lm and other coordinates for Adjusted DU4050 when I use these coordinates and when use others. the second question, please my philosophy search point about blending distance in multi airfoils wind blade and I’ve problem in mesh making foe NREL 5 MW wind blade scale 1:50 in spite of no error message or warnings and I’ve made geometry check without any error and I haven’t any problem in blade lofting, Are you’ve any recommendations taking in your consideration I used this tutorial:

Dear @Mohsen.Mansour,

I’m still not sure I understand your question, but it sounds like you want to generate a surface mesh of the NREL 5-MW baseline blade, e.g., for CFD solutions; is that correct?

Yes, Sir
Thanks in advance …

Dear @Mohsen.Mansour,

I asked Mike Lawson of NREL, who developed a surface mesh of the NREL 5-MW baseline rotor for use in CFD solutions, and this is his response:

Here is the geometry I created based on some input from Ganesh, the NREL 5 MW report, and some design decisions I made on characteristics that were not previously defined. Anyone is free to use it, but I make no guarantee of accuracy: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zuVa1oF4y8_dOKJVzmdZhpu8gUesy5TJ?usp=sharing

See the following NREL report for more information: https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy19osti/72760.pdf.

Ganesh Vijayakumar of NREL further added:

If Mike’s sharing the original CAD file he shared with me, I think that has the right surface geometry. However, I’d suggest checking the coning angle before performing any simulations.
