Furling Behavior analysis set up

Hi,

I have a turbine configuration and initial furling configuration. How do I set up the simulation to see what is the behavior of furling system? More specifically, how do I give the input for wind file to see appropriate furling performance? When I give the step input to wind file from 8m/s to 25 m/s, the tail furl position changes to -70 degree, nacelle yaw position changes to 75 degrees. The tail furl is on and rotor furl is off. But still, the rotor rpm goes up with the wind speed and rotor power also goes up with the wind speed. So, I am confused whether furling is taking place or there is some simulation set up problem. So, any help to compare furling performance will be useful.

Ruchit Shah.

Dear Ruchit,

I’m not sure I really understand your question, but it sounds like your rotor is yawing out of the wind, so, I would expect the rotor speed and power to drop at the high nacelle-yaw angles.

Using step winds is certainly a useful approach to test control actions (passive control in the case of furling). Of course, it is also important to check the performance under turbulent inflow at various mean wind speed and turbulence levels.

Best regards,
