To answer your question about the full-system natural frequencies: I have not done such an analysis. Do I understand correctly that when enabling subdyn, the time step should be:
DT <= 1 / ( 10 * <highest full system natural frequency in Hz )
And I need to do a linearization analysis as explained in this post?

I presume that elimination of modes is synonymous to setting the respecive DOFs to False in ElastoDyn, or am I missing something here?

Regarding the OpenFAST error, the platform and turbine behaviour are shown below. I suspect the large blade deflection is not the cause but rather a consequence of a numerical instability
