Distributed blade properties for small turbines

Hello everyone,

I have been working on my final university repport about using wind turbines for residential use and to start understanding the program operation I am trying to simulate any turbine that has less than 3 meters in diameter, but I’m failing on that.

At this link: https://wind.nrel.gov/airfoils/AirfoilFamilies.html, I discovered that the best existing airfoils in database for my application are the s835, s833 and s834. But my question is: Where can I find the discretized properties of these blades?

Some elements concerning the geometry of the airfoils I can deduce by interpolation, but the flap and edge stiffness, for example, I do not know how to obtain.

I would be very much obliged if you can help me.

Best regards,

Dear Vinicius,

I am not aware of a wind turbine model in FAST / OpenFAST in the public domain that has 3-m rotor diameter. The SWRT model from the FAST CertTest or OpenFAST r-test is the closest, with a diameter of 5.8 m. If you can’t find a model with a rotor diameter of 3 m, you could estimate the stiffness of a blade on a 3-m diameter rotor by applying geometric scaling laws to the stiffness of the blade from the SWRT model.

Best regards,

Dear Jason,

I aprecciate for your help. This SRTW file is being very useful.

Yet I must comment that I’m a little disappointed with the difficulty on modelling new turbines for inputs in FAST. It seems to be limited for the study of small turbines, at least the public data.
