Dear Dr Jason
I am a new developer of FAST. I need some help to understand the source code (Elastodyn , servodyn, Aerodyn) as I am going to make some modification to the code. Also, I have a good experience in Fortran but i don’t know how to start to understand the code. What are the prerequisite materials should I read before reading the code? What are the theories behind that code ? what are the numeral solver techniques for that stable simulation ?
Could you please send me the Unofficial FAST theory manual and any other necessary materials that you recommend for me? Thanks in advance

Dear Mohamed,
I’ve sent you the unofficial FAST theory manual.
All of the FAST v8 / OpenFAST modules follow the same format as dictated by the FAST modularization framework with distinct routines for initialization (_Init), updating states from t to t+dt (_UpdateStates), calculating output (_CalcOutput), and ending (_End). See the FAST modularization framework for general documentation of how the modules are structured and programming protocols: nwtc.nrel.gov/FAST-Developers.
Further questions on the source code implementation and compiling are best supported by the OpenFAST development community by posting questions on OpenFAST issues: github.com/OpenFAST/openfast/issues.
I hope that helps.
Best regards,
