NREL 5MW Reference Turbine - tilt and C_T

Dear Bjorn,

The basic problem I see is that the rotor thrust reported in Figure 9-1 of the NREL 5-MW specifications report is not the pure applied aerodynamic thrust, but it also includes contributions from gravity and inertia forces. See the following forum topic for a similar question and my detailed response: FAST Output: RotCt is not constant for the same TSR.

The complete Cp/Cq/Ct versus tip-speed ratio (TSR) and pitch angle surfaces of the NREL 5-MW turbine based purely on aerodynamics are documented on our online forum – see the topic found here: NREL 5-MW reference turbine - CP, CQ, CT Coefficients.

Both the thrust and thrust coefficients discussed in these forum topics are measured along the shaft, which is titled at 5 degrees; I would think you would want to account for this 5 degree tilt in your LES code.

Best regards,
